Tony de Zorzi is a happy man after his first outing as captain of the Cape Cobras this week.
De Zorzi, 23, led the side in the absence of Zubayr Hamza and despite not winning their first match of the 4-Day tournament, they had the better of the Warriors at Newlands.
In fact, if it wasn’t for rain interrupting the match, washing out the entire fifth day, the Cobras would have been a good bet for getting their first “W”.
After scoring 513/6 declared in their first innings, they had the Warriors in trouble at 259/9 before the game washed out.
De Zorzi says: “We were in a really good position, we haven’t been in those too many times this season.
“We started off positively, but then the rain came in.
“In my first game as captain and to start with a fifty [68 runs], was a nice positive for myself.”
De Zorzi and his teammates now turn their attention to the Knights who they host in their final 4-Day match of the season next week.
