PSL title contenders Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns know that they will have to fight to the death on the final weekend to be crowned champions.
In tomorrow’s dramatic 3.30pm season climax, leaders Chiefs and defending champions Sundowns go to the line level on 53 points, with Chiefs boasting a three-goal difference on the title holders.
Winning could be all that counts with the stakes that high, but both Chiefs boss Ernst Middendorp and his counterpart Pitso Mosimane know that anything can happen on the final day.
And with Amakhosi’s opponents Baroka and Downs’ date Black Leopards, both fighting to avoid the relegation playoff place, things will be even trickier.
Middendorp warns his manne that they must dala what they must to keep their lead at the top.
The German says: “We have Baroka. We have to expect that our competitors will not give away anything at all. It is definitely a fight for everything.”
Mosimane’s team will need a four-goal swing on the final day to snatch the title from Chiefs, should the Sowetans win.
Without ruling out final-day dramatics, he says: “We had to win the final game of the season to win the title last season. We won’t give Kaizer Chiefs a competition. We will fight to the end.
“You can never say never. We have to do it ourselves. You can never ask for a favour.”
