Golf legend Tiger Woods underwent a “long surgical procedure on his lower right leg and ankle” in the US after suffering multiple leg injuries in a single-car rollover crash.
An update was posted on Woods’ Twitter posted on Tuesday night, US time, that included a statement from Dr. Anish Mahajan, reading: “[Tiger] Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopedic trauma specialists.
“Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilised by inserting a rod into the tibia.
“Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilised with a combination of screws and pins.
“Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling.”

Woods’ team added that the golfer was “currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room”.
At a press conference, Los Angeles county sheriff Alex Villanueva said there was “no evidence of impairment” at the time of the early-morning crash, but that Woods appeared to have been travelling at a “relatively greater speed than normal”.
The department adds that deputies responded at approximately 7.12am to the scene of a rollover. Woods, who was conscious and could identify himself, was extricated from the car through the windshield area and taken to the hospital.
