THE GENERAL: New CT City addition Teko Modise

The veteran playmaker joins on a free after deciding not to renew the optional final year of his contract with African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

It’s another huge move in the transfer market by City owner John Comitis after already scooping Bafana Bafana midfielder Ayanda Patosi, Mozambique captain Jeitoso and winger Lyle Lakay.

All of them have arrived as free agents and it just shows the pulling power of the club after their third-placed PSL finish and winning the Telkom Knockout trophy last season.

City have bonafide stars thanks to the form of skipper Lebogang Manyama and Aubrey Ngoma, who between them picked up five big awards at the PSL end-of-season gala on Monday night.

And that’s not even mentioning the capture of Benni McCarthy as new coach after losing Eric Tinkler to SuperSport United.

Modise has been in talks with the club for two weeks and this weekend flew into the Mother City to conclude the deal.

A deal was struck on Tuesday night after a meeting with Comitis and McCarthy.

And the 34-year-old former Bafana, SuperSport and Orlando Pirates man signed a two-year contract to help keep the club on a upward trend.

“The General” will slot into the midfield where he is expected to play a deeper role. He will wear the No.13 jersey.
