The Stormers will play their last ever match at Newlands when they host the Cheetahs in Super Rugby Unlocked action on Saturday.
With only two rounds left of this franchise competition, the second-placed Stormers travel to Durban to face the Sharks in the final week of the competition.
And while it won’t be the last time that we’ll see coach John Dobson’s team in action at the soon-to-be ex-home of Cape rugby, it will be the final time as a franchise team that they will play there.
Once Super Rugby Unlocked is done and dusted, the Currie Cup starts meaning the team will still get to play at Newlands – before the Cape Town Stadium move next year – as Western Province.
After returning to winning ways against Griquas (39-6) last weekend, Dobson can’t wait for their Newlands return.
The head coach says: “[The win over Griquas after losing to the Bulls] has been great for our confidence, it has been a tough start for us.
“We have been up in the highveld in the heat for three weeks in a row [playing against the Pumas, Bulls and Griquas] so we are looking forward to getting to Newlands against a good team like the Cheetahs and building on this performance.”
