Steve Barker’s manne are now winless in their last eight league matches after they failed to come back from Kurt Lentjies’s 10th-minute goal in East London.
And with games against Orlando Pirates, Swallows FC, TS Galaxy and Golden Arrows to come, Stellies faces a tough task to stay ahead of 15th-placed Tshakhuma FC who are three points behind them with two games in hand.
After Chippa’s fast start, Stellies managed to get a foothold in the game.
Ashley du Preez saw a penalty shout waved away in the 24th minute after Stellies threatened from set-pieces.
Junior Mendieta and Phathutshedzo Nange combined to set up young Jayden Adams, but his 77 effort was denied by desperate Chippa defending.
And when Alan Robertson’s effort hit the crossbar from a late set-piece, Stellies knew their luck wasn’t in another frustrating defeat.
