Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker slammed his team for throwing away victory in their 2-2 PSL draw with AmaZulu on Saturday.
Stellies looked set to consolidate second place in the PSL after well-taken second-half goals by Stanley Dimgba and Ashley du Preez at windy Danie Craven Stadium.
But with the points seemingly in the bag for Stellies, the players took their foot off the pedal and were duly punished by coach Benni McCarthy’s manne through substitutes Sphesihle Maduna and Keagan Buchanan.
And Stellies’ unbeaten start to the season was under real threat late on when Devin Titus was shown a second yellow with AmaZulu drukking in injury time.
Boss Barker was not a happy man, saying: “The performance was nowhere near what we are capable of. I’m disappointed in the performance of the team.
“Once we had the lead, we went back into our shell and then we gave away a 2-0 lead.”
