Cape Town City gets a shot at redemption against AmaZulu when they host their Telkom Knockout nemesis on Saturday (8.15pm).
Benni McCarthy couldn’t hide his frustration after Tuesday night’s 2-0 capitulation in Umlazi on Tuesday night.
After the game, he said: “My players must get it into their thick skulls that this is a game that you trained for every day and come the weekend you play to win.
“I think it’s getting to that point where something’s got to give, changes have to get made or players, if they don’t take responsibility, get dropped.”
The Cape Town Stadium showdown is massive for both teams, with 14th-placed City looking for only their second PSL win of the season and AmaZulu out to get off the bottom of the log.
And here we look at what City need to do:
City controlled the first 45 minutes on Tuesday by blocking off the flanks with Gift Links and Craig Martin, who is a doubt for this match with a groin injury.
The duo also attacked well when in possession and pinned Usuthu back.
Whoever plays out wide for City will have to repeat that feat and this time they need to make it count.
Benni has been losing his mind here. The Bafana Bafana goalscoring legend just can’t seem to pass on this skill to his manne.
He has tried with Matthew Rusike and Siphelele Mthembu and, while they work hard, they are not scoring enough. Perhaps we’ll finally see Tokelo Rantie let loose on the PSL.
Service down the wings from Links and Martin was out of the top draw on Tuesday.
Ugandan playmaker Allen Kateregga had a nightmare in the No.10 position and he should make way for Ayanda Patosi or Benni can push another striker up front to add to his attack.
Like Benni says: “They need to get it into their thick skulls”.
Over the course of the season, City have struggled to get over the finish line despite some good performances.
They will have to be more consistent in their intensity and they must stick to their game plan rather than hitting long balls when they need a big goal.
