NOTTINGHAM Forest and Aston Villa were the biggest losers on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday, with both teams narrowly missing out on Champions League football.

Heading into the final day, Liverpool were already crowned champions, while Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton were all relegated to the Championship.

The big prize up for grabs was a place in the top five and subsequently a place in next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal finished runners-up to Liverpool, with a 2-1 win against Southampton.

Manchester City made sure of third place with a 2-0 win over Fulham.

But it was the match between Chelsea and Forest at the latter’s home ground that was always going to be a deciding clash, with the winner claiming a top-five spot.

The Blues claimed fourth thanks to a Levi Colwill goal for a 1-0 win.

Then, for 76 minutes at Old Trafford Aston Villa fans thought their team were through in fifth.

But then Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen struck for Manchester United and Villa lost that spot to Newcastle, despite their 1-0 loss to Everton.
