Maritzburg United chairman Farouk Kadodia says his club’s Nedbank Cup final spotlight is being stolen by Mamelodi Sundowns and Barcelona.

The Team of Choice will take on Free State Stars for silverware at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

But the build-up to the nation’s premier cup game has been overshadowed by tonight’s blockbuster friendly between Downs and Barca.

And Kadodia believes his unfancied team and Luc Emyael’s FS Stars are being taken in the gevriet by the powers that be.

He tells IOL: “I have my reservations about the game. But I cannot say too much. This is the first time the final is in Cape Town and it would have been hoped that the stakeholders would have given the decision a bit more thought.”

The KZN side arrived in the Cape on Sunday and are hoping the local fans rally around them for the final with Kapenaar coach Fadlu Davids taking a training session at FC Kapstadt on Monday.

And Kadodia adds: “We want the Cape fans to rally behind our team. We have Capetonians like the coach [Davids] and the captain [Bevan Fransman] in the squad.”
