THE hunt for European football will go down to the wire on the final day of the Premier League season as five teams have it all to play from 5pm on Sunday.
While newly-crowned champions Liverpool, runners-up Arsenal and Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur have already secured Champions League football, the race for three remaining spots in Europe’s top competition is still up for grabs.
Manchester City (third), Newcastle United (fourth), Chelsea (fifth), Aston Villa (sixth) and Nottingham Forest (seventh) are all still in with a shot of securing Champions League football, with positions four to six all on 66 points and only separated by goal difference.
All eyes will, however, be on the clash between seventh-placed Forest (65 points) and Chelsea, with the winner at the City Ground assured of a Champions League spot, although results of other games could also play a groot role on whether one of these two play in the Europa League or Conference League.
And while these two sides will be battling it out, Blues and Forest fans will be sure to keep an eye on the result of some other important final day clashes, with fifth-placed Villa travelling to Old Trafford to face a dejected Manchester United side who lost out on Champions League footy after a 1-0 loss to Spurs in Wednesday’s Europa League final.
Meanwhile, Newcastle will want to make sure they don’t stumble at home when they welcome David Moyes’ Everton to St James’ Park.
