David de Gea is on the path to becoming Manchester United’s greatest ever goalkeeper according to caretaker coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
De Gea was in top form against Tottenham on Sunday night, keeping a clean sheet with 11 incredible second-half saves to help United to a 1-0 win at Wembley.
The tally is a record high for a shot-stopper in the Premier League while holding a clean sheet.
It’s a moerse turnaround in the Spaniard’s fortunes after conceding 30 goals in 17 league games this season up until Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month.
Since then, De Gea has conceded just three in five as United have won six in a row under Solskjaer.
The 28-year-old shot stopper has lifted the club’s player of the season award four times over the last five seasons.
And Solskjaer, who played in front of the likes of Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, was not shy with his praise of his Wembley hero.
He says: “We’ve had some great keepers at this club and I think he’s challenging both Edwin and Peter for the number one spot
historically.
“I’ve played with a few fantastic goalkeepers. We have a tradition of having them and he has grown and grown. He deserves that man of the match today.”
The “Great Dane” Schmeichel himself hailed his successor, tweeting: “Great win @ManUtd and @D_DeGea is a wall.”
