Benni McCarthy believes his Cape Town City players want to set the record straight when Highlands Park come to town on Friday night (8 pm).
The Lions of the North landed two sucker punches in December when they beat City 2-0 at the Makhulong Stadium.
Benni insists his manne had an off day when they came up against Owen da Gama’s team and he warns that his team are still hurting from their shock defeat to AmaZulu last Sunday. Those two losses bookended a seven-match unbeaten run, including five wins in all competitions.
And Benni says: “They make life difficult at home, but they are not so dominant away.
“It’s a Cup game and if you win it you go straight into Africa.”
City’s seven-goal ace Siphelele Mthembu returns from injury to bulk up his attack and the legendary striker has challenged “Shaka Zulu” to had to his account.
Benni adds: “Highlands are a physical side and we have gone petite overnight, smaller and shorter, so having Shaka back bulking our squad up is good.
“Shaka would love to pick up where he left off. He finds himself in a unique position where he can become the top goalscorer.
“He needs to rack up his goal tally and Highlands Park is the perfect opposition to start with.
“Not that we thinking of revenge, but it’s nice to get one back.”
