The FA is planning to reduce the number of foreign players in Premier League teams, over concerns about Brexit.
Clubs could find their quota of 17 reduced to 12 as soccer bosses look to boost the production of homegrown players. According to reports on Tuesday, 13 clubs have more than 12 overseas players in their first team squads this season.
Champions Manchester City, for example, have 21 foreigners in the squad – but that number includes “homegrown” youngsters.
If the clubs fail to reach an agreement with the FA on Brexit, they could face a “no-deal” scenario where all EU players would have to fulfil the same criteria that non-EU players do now to get a work permit, the report added.
