Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy believes captain Thami Mkhize is the PSL’s best defender.
The Citizen's are up against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday at 3pm and McCarthy is hoping Mkhize can lead his team to victory as they look to stay in the hunt for the title.
Seven points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates, but with a game in hand, McCarthy has already given up hope of winning the PSL title.
But his players will know that stranger things have happened in the world of sport and backed by their coach, they will go all out to win their remaining matches.
Asked if Mkhize is his pick for the league’s Defender of the Season, McCarthy tells Kickoff: “Thamsanqa Mkhize is so reliable, a pleasure to work with, he’s already got my vote, one of the most disciplined players I ever worked with in my coaching career.
“If I can have 20 more players like him, we would even compete in the Premier League.
“I think his place in the Bafana Bafana team is guaranteed, I don’t see anyone better than him in that position right now, top player that one.”
