Baroka FC is keen to upset giants Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s Telkom Knockout final in their mission of building a reputation as cup kings of South African football.
This is according to their chairman, Khurishi Mphahlele.
Baroka is searching for their maiden trophy in top-flight football when they go to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
And Mphahlele wants the TKO to be the start of big things to come for Baroka in future.
He says: “When we gained promotion to the PSL (in 2016/17), I made it very clear that we are here to add value not to add numbers.
“Winning cups has always been our ambition and we are [a] step closer to fulfilling that goal.
“I’m happy that the team is in the final and I’m looking forward to have my hand on that trophy next week.
“It will be a blessing for us to win this cup.
“We want to make the people of Limpopo proud. “’m sure everyone wants to see Baroka win this cup.”
Coach Wedson Nyirenda’s young team have been the giant killers in this year’s edition of the Telkom Knockout.
They dumped Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits out of the tournament.
But they face another massive test against a Pirates side unbeaten in their last 12 games before Bucs played Light Stars in Seychelles on Wednesday afternoon.
The 3-1 result means the Sea Robbers go into the first round of the Caf Champions League following their 5-1 win in the first leg last week.
