DETERMINED: Caster Semenya

South African track sensation Caster Semenya has set her sights on two golds at the Rio Olympics after confirming that she will run the 400m and her favourite 800m.

Caster broke her 800m record by 0.12 seconds at the Monaco Diamond League meeting last Friday.

Clocking 1:55.33, she ran the 12th fastest time in women’s 800m history, and the best since 2008.

While she had hinted she would consider racing the double in Rio, her coach Jean Verster has confirmed that she will indeed be racing in both the 400m and the 800m.

“The 800 will be her event but she is doing really well in the 400 as well this year and we decided that we will go for the double,” Verster told

“We are going to go and enjoy the 400.

Yes there is pressure but we will see how far she gets and I think she can do really well.”

She adds: “It is all about improving my 400m time but we will see how my body feels and we will see if I am really going to double or not. But the main focus is on running better in the 800m.”
