The South African Football Association (Safa) is considering taking a step back to take Bafana Bafana forward.
Following the failure of the national team to qualify for next year’s Afcon, reports claim that former Bafana coaches Philippe Troussier and Carlos Queiroz are reportedly interested in taking the reins again, with Safa looking to replace Molefi Ntseki before their World Cup 2022 qualification campaign kicks off in June.
According to TimesLive, Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane heads their list for the top job – which current AmaZulu boss Benni McCarthy has put his hand up for.
A Safa insider was quoted saying: “This is clear‚ they [Troussier and Queiroz] want the job and the players will respect them.
“Let us face it‚ we need someone who understands SA football and our players‚ and Troussier and Queiroz fit the bill.
“Pitso is the top prize‚ but I am not sure he will agree. If he doesn’t‚ then we will intensify the talks with Troussier and Queiroz.”
Former Real Madrid boss and Manchester United No.2, Queiroz, the last man to qualify Bafana for a World Cup, recently left his job in charge of the Colombian national team.
Troussier, on the other hand, is currently in charge of Vietnam’s U19 national side.
The Frenchman famously led SA during their maiden World Cup in 1998, and in 2002, led Japan to the last 16.
