Springbok Duane Vermeulen appears set to make a return to South Africa next year after it has emerged that his French club Toulon are already looking at possible replacements for the star No 8.
The abrasive eighthman has been at Toulon since 2015, but it’s believed South Africa’s new Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus is determined for him to make a return to South Africa.
Should the 31-year-old leave Toulon, it’s expected that the Stormers and Western Province will be the biggest winners, with Vermeulen likely to rejoin his former team.
Vermeulen is also believed to be one of the favourites to lead the Springboks to the World Cup in 2019.
Meanwhile, it is also reported that Stormers No.8 Nizaam Carr might extend his short-term loan at England club Wasps.
This move will pave the way for Vermeulen's return.
