It’s tough at the top. And coach Neil Powell’s Blitzbokke knows exactly what it means to be hunted down by the chasing pack.
South Africa won the 2016/17 World Sevens Series and also hit the ground running with the Dubai title last week.
Captain Philip Snyman, though, knows they are the team to beat at their home ground in Cape Town this weekend.
And it’s not only the big guns that are looking to shoot them down.
Snyman explains: “The first game against Uganda [in Dubai] was an eye opener. Every team is going to come for us this year.
“[But we] want to focus on ourselves and our processes. All other teams will make a step up this week.
Snyman highlights their major threats, saying: “Teams will bounce back - a couple of teams suffered some injuries.
“But the teams will be ready for this week - especially England showed what they’re capable, New Zealand showed they are ready to bounce back and Fiji will also be a force.”
Snyman also believes the Cape Town Stadium fans will give them the edge home this weekend.
