Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says he will give himself five out of 10 after his team’s 20-11 defeat to Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.
The defeat also meant South Africa finished their tour of the UK with a 50 percent winning record, having beaten France and Scotland with defeats to England and Wales.
They also won seven out of 14 Tests this year and of their performances this year - the first under his tutelage, Erasmus says: “Out of ten I would probably give myself a five.”
Erasmus believes consistency cost the Boks this year and adds: “The positive is we’ve shown on the day when everything is aligned and the guys are all in the same mindset, we can beat All Blacks away, but we’ve also seen we can lose at Argentina away.
“The first game against England we could have won.

“Then we would have had three out of four. “England smashed Australia and scored one try against us.
“Our problem is consistency and that only comes with experience...”
Of the defeat to Wales, he says: “I think the scoreboard os a really good reflection of the game. Wales are the No.3 in the world and they showed it today. We would have loved to end tour on a win.
“[But] they outkicked us on the day - their distance kicks were excellent.
“We struggled to get into their half.”
His captain Siya Kolisi adds: “Wales outplayed and outsmarted us we weren’t good [on the day]. We knew what they were going to do, but we didn’t adapt.”
