If reports are true, Western Province Rugby is in the midst of a civil war over Paul Treu.
Treu has been at the centre of a deepening crisis at Newlands as players, sponsors, coaches and management are all divided over whether the former Blitzbok boss has a future at the union.
Treu was last year embroiled in a battle that threatened to tear apart the Stormers coaching set-up as the defence coach and skills mentor Paul Feeney botsed.
Treu accused Feeney of discrimination, but after an independent inquiry, which involved the interviewing of the players, Feeney was cleared.
Treu was reassigned to a high-performance director, but now with reports that new WP president Zelt Marais is pushing to replace WP director of rugby Gert Smal with the former SA Sevens coach, chaos ensued.
Players reportedly held discussions over Treu’s position in a meeting with management on Tuesday.
It is claimed that many players are unhappy with Treu staying on.
And now sponsors DHL have threatened to pull their current deal from the union, who are already in financial problems.
Meanwhile, Stormers coach Robbie Fleck is not keen on playing his Springbok stars in this Sunday’s Superheroes Day at Cape Town Stadium.
Fleck says: “We are going to give the guys who played a lot of games on the Springbok tour another two weeks to get properly conditioned.
“But I’d like to think that in this match we will be reintroducing the players who toured and will start heading towards our strongest playing group.”
