Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says he never discussed tactics with Duane Vermeulen via a microphone in the Test against Wales last weekend.
Instead, the Bok No.8 was confirming that he has dislocated his shoulder when fitness coach Aled Walters handed him the microphone.
According to World Rugby rules “a player may not wear communication devices".
Erasmus, though, explains to Netwerk24 that he saw how Vermeulen injured his shoulder and was concerned because the medical team was busy with other players.
The incident happened in the 62nd minute of the 20-11 defeat, and Vermeulen was then substituted two minutes later by Francois Louw.
The coach adds: “Duane couldn’t understand why [Aled] was asking and said he wanted to quickly talk to me himself. He told me his shoulder was too sore to continue playing.”
Thor tweeted on Tuesday: “That is correct as I dislocated my shoulder in the first half.”
