Saturday's Super Rugby coastal derby between the Stormers and the Sharks at Newlands will be an emotional affair for the Capetonians.
With a number of their players headed abroad at the end of the campaign, the match will be the end of an era for this team.
Confirmed departures include lock Eben Etzebeth (to Toulon) and fullback SP Marais (Canon Eagles), while Dillyn Leyds, Steven Kitshoff and captain Siya Kolisi, among others, have also been linked with moves abroad.
Leyds admits that it will be an emotional affair for the players in front of their own fans.
He says: “We all enjoy playing at Newlands, our home record has shown that. It’s a special ground for everyone here, especially when there were talks about moving away, you could see the guys were upset about that.
“We’ve got some great fans at Newlands, so it’s really special for everyone. Last week, 20 minutes into the Sunwolves match, Edwill [van der Merwe] said to me this is the best feeling he’s ever had.
“With it being the last game for some guys and for us as a 2019 team, it’s going to be quite an emotional affair.
“But that’s basically what every SA derby is like, you want to get one over your fellow countrymen. The Sharks at Newlands is always good.”
