Branco du Preez is now the most-capped Blitzbok player of all time.
Having played in his 69th tournament in Singapore - equalling the record number of tournaments played by Kyle Brown - Du Preez played in the most number of matches (350).
Brown is second with 347 matches.
The 28-year-old couldn’t have imagined a better day to celebrate this occasion as South Africa came from 19-0 behind to beat Fiji 20-19 in the final of the event, much to the delight of Du Preez.
He says: “The moment feels unreal, to be honest.
“What I do know is that it feels pretty special to celebrate my 69th tournament in this way.
“Equalling Kyle’s mark will still sink in - it is just such a great feeling. What makes it more special is the fact that I can share it with great teammates, with my family and with all our fans in our wonderful country. This was for all of them, not for myself.”
Du Preez also extended his Blitzboks career record for conversions to 398 - which places him in ninth position on the all-time world list.
He is also the second highest points scorer of all time for the Blitzboks with 1 253, only behind Cecil Afrika (1 430).
Seabelo Senatla (1120) is third.
