SUNDAY’S preparation for Monday’s return to work was made even more bitter for Stormers fans when their team lost 61-10 to Harlequins in the Champions Cup.

Not even the “8pm Sunday movie” could get fans to forget the horror that was on display at Twickenham Stoop, where the hosts ran in nine tries to the two of the Stormers.

NINE tries for a team that went down 66-21 to Northampton the previous week.

Yes, the Stormers fielded a second-string span as their 10-match winning streak was brought to an end, but they will still be unhappy with the showing.

The groot kanonne were left in the Mother City where they will face Leicester Tigers in their final Champions Cup Pool 3 match this weekend – a match the third-placed Stormers now have to win to stand a chance of hosting a home Round of 16 match and to be sure of a place in the knockouts.

According to assistant coach Dawie Snyman, they have lots to fix ahead of the Tigers clash.

Of the defeat and their unbeaten run being ended, Snyman said at a media conference on Tuesday: “The record is not something we discussed, but the manner in which we lost is not ideal.

“It doesn’t matter who plays, if you play for the Stormers you have a certain standard. Our job is to fix the areas [where things went wrong] and make sure we get it right.”

Asked which areas they will focus on fixing, Snyman said: “All the areas, it was not a great performance.

“[But] a lot of players stayed at home and our focus is on going forward and getting it right on Saturday.”

While they won’t dwell too much on the past and last weekend’s failure, the Stormers assistant coach added: “In terms of [coming up against] Leicester, there is a lot of internal focus.

“We don’t know a lot about them. It’s about how we can prepare and how we can put our best foot forward.”
