SPRINGBOK coach Rassie Erasmus has set the record straight on a rumoured beef with Stormers loose forward Evan Roos and wants to see the Kaapse yster play in the Currie Cup.
Roos is one of seven players who did not make the cut for the Springboks’ 37-man Rugby Championship squad that is set to face Australia, but have been put on standby in case someone gets injured.
The Stormers No.8 only played in one of South Africa’s July Tests, with Roos playing off the bench in the 45-0 win against Italy in Gqeberha.
Many expected Roos to get a start in the Boks’ 55-10 win against Georgia in Nelspruit, but he did not feature as Erasmus sprung a surprise by selecting Cobus Wiese in the No.8 position.
This move was seen as a snub by the Bok baas.
However, Erasmus said of him and Roos being on the same page and wanting to see Roos play some Currie Cup Premier Division games for Western Province: “You are welcome to give him a call. [Bok assistant coach] Felix Jones has already spoken to Dobbo [Stormers director of rugby John Dobson] about getting some game time [in the Currie Cup].
“Evan knows what he needs to work on. [By leaving him out], we just felt that with too many loose forwards in the squad.”
