SPRINGBOK coach Rassie Erasmus is expecting the unexpected from the Wallabies when the two teams meet in two Rugby Championship matches next month.

South Africa tackle Australia on 16 August at Ellis Park and a week later at Cape Town Stadium to start their Rugby Championship campaign.

And after getting some inside info that Les Kiss, the man set to take over as Wallabies coach from Joe Schmidt at the end of the year, is also making the trip to Mzansi, Erasmus skeems the Aussies might have a few new tricks up their sleeve.

One weakness that however has been a glaring concern for Australia amid their three-Test series against the British & Irish Lions, is on the defensive side, with former players and pundits criticising Schmidt’s span for not employing a rush defence.

Erasmus however, feels Kiss could take over some of the defensive duties from current tackle coach Laurie Fisher, who is not a fan of the gaan haal jou man plan.

The Bokke baas told the Daily Voice: “I am speaking under correction, but Less Kiss, I know him from Harry Viljoen’s days as Springbok coach. He also coached at Ulster [in Ireland] for a bit.

“[He] is taking over from Joe and I think Les will be coming with Joe… and Les has a rugby league coaching background…  And guys from league brought that defensive system to our game.

“We don’t know what he is going to bring to the party, so we are preparing ourselves for everything.”
