The Stormers conceded 14 points in the first six minutes before kicking into gear and earning a 20-20 draw with Edinburgh in their United Rugby Championship clash on Saturday.
Still without a win in three attempts in the tournament, neither coach John Dobson’s team nor their hosts could score any points in a vervelige second 40.
There was no lack of action in the first half, as the Stormers started in reverse when wing Sergeal Petersen was taken for a pop by Edinburgh’s SA-born flyhalf Jaco van der Walt.
Shooting out of the defence line, Petersen was sold a dummy by Van der Walt as he went for the “intercept”, before beating a half-hearted tackle by Juan de Jongh and then offloading to wing Darcy Graham – 7-0 in the third minute.
Dit was ook nie lank nie and Van der Walt beat diving Stormers loosie Nama Xaba on his outside to break the Stormers line and put Ben Vellacott away – 14-0 in the sixth minute.
Realising they’ve hit the accelerator at full speed in reverse, the Stormers kapped the gearbox into eerste rat and it was fullback Warrick Gelant that stretched over three minutes later for their first try after some good hands by front-rowers Brok Harris and Scarra Ntubeni.
A penalty conversion in the 13th minute by Tim Swiel made it 14-10.
Edinburgh replied with a penalty of their own, before the Stormers levelled the scores in the 33rd minute.
A superb break by No.8 Evan Roos on the Edinburgh 22 saw him give a no-look pass back to scrumhalf Paul de Wet for the try (17-17).
Another penalty apiece made it 20-20 at the break, before both Van der Walt and Swiel missed shots at goal to win it for their team.
The Stormers threatened to claim a late win, with Swiel missing a drop goal at the death.
