Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has urged his teammates to build on their Champions League win at Leipzig when they face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
The English champions are hoping to put their recent slump behind them after a morale-boosting win over the Germans in Budapest on Tuesday night – only coach Jurgen Klopp’s team’s sixth win in their last 16 games across all competitions.
And Holland star Wijnaldum says of their new approach: “It’s really mental.
“Because before when we played good games, almost every time we won the games in the previous years. So this is something new for us, the situation we are in right now.
“We just have to deal with it, we have to stay confident and have faith we can turn it around.
“It’s a difficult situation to be in but also from this situation we will learn and it will help us along the way.”
Meanwhile, Everton are hoping to bounce back from Wednesday night’s 3-1 league pak by leaders Manchester City.
With Merseyside derby bragging rights up for grabs, Abdoulaye Doucoure says: “I think it is the best moment for us to have another game and go into this match against Liverpool.
“Of course, it is going to be a tough game and they are a very good side. But we are eager to win that game. We just need to start winning games as soon as possible to stay near to the top six.”
