The Pumas ended their Currie Cup season in style on Sunday, beating the Blue Bulls 44-14 in Nelspruit.
With the Bulls already having top spot secured in the competition and a home semifinal against the Golden Lions next week booked, there wasn’t much in the match for coach Jake White’s charges. And it showed.
White made wholesale changes for the final clash of the round-robin stage of the tournament, with their newbies getting a horror welcome from their hosts.
The Pumas sprinted to a 34-7 lead at the break, scoring five tries via Luther Obi, Ettienne Taljaard, Devon Williams, Willie Engelbrecht and Daniel Maartens to the one scored by Ivan van Zyl.
With their visitors already down and out after the first 40 minutes, the Pumas allowed the Bulls to bring some sort of respectability to the scoreline, with Williams scoring a second and Dawid Kellerman dotting down for the visitors.
