The Proteas announced a new 17-man squad for their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka starting in Centurion on Boxing Day.
The squad includes Raynard van Tonder, Lutho Sipamla and Dwaine Pretorius who were called up over the weekend, but excludes fast bowler Beauran Hendricks and batsman Keegan Petersen, who were both in the original squad.
Cricket South Africa last week sent out a statement reading: “Cricket South Africa (CSA) can confirm that two members of the Proteas team have returned positive Covid-19 results following their scheduled first round of testing ahead of the team’s entry into the Bio-Secure Environment for the Test series against Sri Lanka…
“The players will no longer form part of the Test team and will observe the Covid-19 protocols, including isolating with immediate effect. CSA’s medical team will monitor them to ensure their health and well-being.”
The latest round of testing returned no positive results, with CSA announcing: “The hosts will begin training as a full squad from [today] as their preparation for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series continues.”
