Proteas captain Temba Bavuma is convinced they can get out of Group 1 and make a big splash at this year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Up against Australia in their tournament opener on October 23, South Africa also face defending champions the West Indies and England with only two teams advancing to the knockout stage.
Of their chances, Bavuma says: “I don’t think you’d like it much if I said I don’t bank on our chances to get out of the group stages. It’s obviously a tough group that we’re in, but I don’t think we’d want it any differently.
“Teams that we’re coming up against – some of them we’ve had good success against and we’ll be drawing on those good experiences.
“The biggest thing for us as a team is preparing as well as we can, being tactically astute and ensuring come the day we execute our game plan. We back ourselves, we back our chances although a lot of people out there don’t.”
