Proteas chocked out of ICC Trophy
The world’s top-ranked team heading into the tournament was embarrassed by India as they went down by eight wickets.
In a must-win encounter, the Proteas simply didn’t pitch up as they were bowled out for just 191 runs in 44.3 overs after being sent in to bat by Virat Kohli and company.
With the pressure of reaching the play-offs mounting, the Proteas took it upon themselves to lose the match.
This time it was the nerves in the middle while batting, with senior players AB de Villiers (16) and David Miller (1) both being run out with Faf du Plessis at the other end.
Earlier Quinton de Kock started bravely with a knock of 53, but other than him none of the Proteas batsmen delivered.
India looked like cruising to victory from the first ball and that’s exactly what they did,
winning with 72 balls to spare
Shikhar Dhawan (78) and Virat Kohli (76*) were the stars for India with the bat.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan square off today, with the winner of that match joining India, England and Bangladesh in the semifinals.
