South Africa’s golden boot Naas Botha has given Stormers flyhalf Damian Willemse some tips on correcting his goal kicking.
The legendary Botha was a points machine for the Blue Bulls and South Africa during the 70s, 80s and early 90s and known for his drop-goals and accurate goal kicking, he says of Willemse: “Moet nie te veel krap waar dit nie juk nie[in terms of his general play].

“But his goal kicking… he drops too low, his hips are falling down and as soon as the hips drop his foot can’t come through properly.
“His upper body just needs to be a bit higher, which will allow his hips to come inward.
“He falls completely, it’s almost like he’s falling over his left hip and if that happens, your shoulders also fall over. And all that the foot can is follow the shoulders.”
He adds: “It’s simple – all he needs to do is remain upright.
“He has shown in the past that he is a good kicker.”
