Sign new players or Manchester United are in for tough times this season, warns coach Jose Mourinho.
United have been quiet in the transfer market, adding Brazil midfielder Fred, 19-year-old Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot and goalkeeper Lee Grant.
And ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline, the Special One is on CEO Ed Woodward’s case for bigger names.
Jose has been complaining all pre-season long and after seeing his side lose to Bayern Munich 1-0 in Sunday’s final warm-up game before their Premier League opener against Leicester this Friday, he says there could be a meltdown.
The Special One admits: “If we don’t make our team better, it’ll be a difficult season for us.
“The other clubs who compete with us are really strong and already have fantastic teams.
“Or they are investing massively like Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody.
“My CEO knows what I want and I still have a few days to wait and see what happens.”
One of the signings Jose wants is Leicester centreback Harry Maguire and according to reports, United are finally ready to make a move.
SkySports claims that the Old Trafford club is set to offer a world-record £80m for the giant 25-year-old England defender.
United have also been linked to Bayern defender Jerome Boateng and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
Woodward has been slow to act in the window and Jose’s mood has been upsetting the players and his staff.
