BIG EVALUATIONS: Ajax coach Stanley Menzo

Abel Mabaso, Nathan Paulse, Lebohang Mokoena, Aubrey Funga and Lawrence Lartey will all be let go by the Urban Warriors if they can find better replacements.

He tells reporters: “The players who are at the end of their contracts are Abel, Nathan, Cheeseboy [Mokoena], Funga and Lawrence Lartey.

“I also say, at this moment they’re at the end of their contracts, but if I can’t find better players, I have to then make these players better.

“But under normal circumstances, these players will leave the club.”

Veteran striker Paulse has been an asset to the club since rejoining them in 2013. A thorn in the side of PSL rivals, the 35-year-old is also an influential voice in the dressing room.

He is definitely a player that should stay at the club in some capacity.

Cheeseboy and Funga both arrived at Ikamva this season, but have contributed little to the attack, where they play to support the striker.

Ajax have enough attacking talent in the youth setup, having proved that by making the final of the prestigious Terborg tournament in Holland this past weekend.

In defence, Abel Mabaso has been out of favour at his rightback position, while former Ghana U21 captain Lartey has to step up.

If there is one player Menzo can improve, it’s Lartey. The 23-year centreback hasn’t played for the Black Stars for nothing and he can have a massive part to play for the Cape side.
