Cape Town City leftback Terrence Mashego hopes his debut for Bafana Bafana inspires his Citizens teammates to make the step up to the national team.
The 23-year-old won his first cap in Saturday’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Ethiopia and was set to continue in the team last night.
He was called up alongside attacking midfielder Mdu Mdantsane, who was cut from the 34-man provisional squad.
And with the likes of Craig Martin, Thami Mkhize, Thabo Nodada, Abbubaker Mobara and Taariq Fielies all keen on returning to the Bafana setup, Mashego believes they can make their mark this season.
He says of his call-up: “It’s special for me. But it’s also a motivation for some of the guys who play with, because if I can do it, so can you.”
City go to Sekhukhune United on Saturday, with Eric Tinkler’s manne looking to improve on their 10th place on the log.
