Craig Martin couldn’t be prouder of reaching a century for Cape Town City.
With the big occasion coming up when City host SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, the utility man from Kensington would love to celebrate with a goal.
But before he reaches his milestone game, the 27-year-old reflected on his journey to the top of the South African game, having earned a maiden Bafana Bafana call-up in the recent international break.
Having impressed coach Benni McCarthy at a trial four years ago as an amateur, Martin couldn’t stop smiling, saying: “I can’t say thank you to the club enough for giving me the opportunity.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen coming here as an amateur with Glendene and Hellenic. And look at where I am.”
With 10 goals to his name for City and three under his belt already this season, the deputy rightback is keen to play further forward and add another.
Asked about scoring from his position, he jokes: “It’s being greedy. You must be greedy.”
