Cape Cobras batsman Pieter Malan ended Day Two of their 4-Day clash against the Knights unbeaten on 195 runs yesterday to put the Newlands hosts firmly in control.
Malan stood tall at the end of the second day as the Cobras ended the day on 382/3.
Having bowled out their visitors for just 181 runs on the first day, the Capetonians took the field on 84/1, after Isma-eel Gafieldien (2) lost his wicket on the first day, when play resumed yesterday.
The 31-year-old Malan, who recently signed with English county Warwickshire, asked for guard on 51 unbeaten runs, with captain Zubayr Hamza at the other end.
The pair then added 146 runs to their overnight total, before Hamza (86) was caught by Pite van Biljon off the bowling of Patrick Kruger to bring an end to a second-wicket partnership that contributed 219 runs to the grand total.
The Cobras then went from 230/2 to 243/3 when Tony de Zorzi (8) lost his wicket to Shaun von Berg.
That brought in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne to the crease and the duo hammered home their advantage.
When stumps were called yesterday, Malan and Verreynne (74*) had shared an unbeaten 139-run partnership for the fourth wicket, with the Cobras enjoying a lead of 201 runs heading into the third day.
