Romelu Lukaku would like nothing more than to add to Manchester United’s misery with the Chelsea striker hinting he will be back to face his ex-club on Sunday at 6.30pm.
With United still looking for a new coach after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earlier this week, the Red Devils also go to the Premier League leaders without suspended captain Harry Maguire.
That means caretaker coach Michael Carrick will be without Maguire and the injured Raphael Varane in the league’s joint second-worst defence (21 goals conceded) for their trip to the free-scoring Blues (30 goals).
And Lukaku, who has missed Chelsea’s last six matches, will smaak nothing more than to pak dik when he faces his former employers after Blues boss Thomas Tuchel hinted that the club’s record signing just missed out on returning from an ankle injury for their 4-0 midweek Champions League romp against Juventus.
After 42 goals in 96 matches between 2017 and 2019, United sold him to Inter Milan following accusations of laziness and being overweight.
And he posted a cryptic threat on Twitter yesterday, saying: “Some people have played themselves trying to play me…”
The Blues, though, will be hoping that they have star midfielder N’Golo Kante back for United’s visit to Stamford Bridge after the France yster limped off against Juve.
However, reports yesterday claimed that Tuchel was paaping over in-form leftback Ben Chilwell whose knee injury in the same match seems a whole lot more serious and threatens to rule the England star out for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Carrick, who will take charge of his first league match at United, will be looking to build on their 2-0 midweek Champions League win over Villarreal after back-to-back defeats in the league.
