Cape Town City boss Jan Olde Riekerink was left frustrated by his side’s lack of organisation at turnovers.
Since the PSL kicked off on October 24 last year, City have failed to keep a clean sheet in all but one of their matches.
And after his side’s 2-1 loss to resurgent Kaizer Chiefs at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, the Dutchman was an unhappy man.
The former Galatasaray boss says: “I think we should have won this game.
“We had a big problem to get into the rhythm of the game in the first 20 minutes
“There were two transition moments when we were caught out. It’s not like we don’t tell them week-in, week-out how to do that. So those are organisation mistakes.”
His defence was breached when Chiefs won the ball in midfield and took advantage of their advanced numbers to snatch two goals in the first 20 minutes of the clash at Cape Town City and decide the game.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo opened the scoring after just six minutes when City’s defence failed to clear a counter-attack.
And Happy Mashiane had acres of space on his own when Samir Nurkovic switched the play first time as Chiefs broke at City to round the keeper and slot into an open goal after 19 minutes.
City, though, continued to dictate the game after Fagrie Lakay was denied from close range and Mdu Mdantsane hit the post from inside the six-yard box, the hosts had to wait until the last 10 minutes to get a goal.
Lakay side-footed home after some stylish build-up by Mdantsane and Charles Zulu, sparking an all-out push for an equaliser that never came.
City could easily be criticised for playing a game that is too open, but the Dutchman says he will not change the team’s style.
He adds: “We have the players to play this game. I think we cannot play in a different way.
“I am also a coach who likes to play this game. We were unlucky. It’s just not falling for us right now.”
