ALL HAIL PHARAOH: Mo Salah
Egyptian King Mo Salah became Africa’s top goalscorer in the Premier League when he fired Liverpool to a 5-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
In the process of climbing to the top of the Africa list, the 29-year-old also became the first opposition player to score a hattrick on United’s home ground since Ronaldo for Real Madrid in 2003.
Surpassing Chelsea’s Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba’s mark of 104 strikes with his first goal at Old Trafford, Salah netted two more times to take his tally to 15 goals in all competitions already this season – including 10 in nine league games.
Salah, though, is not one to gloat about his personal accolades and prides himself on being a team man.
Also setting up Naby Keita’s fifth-minute opener in the clash, the Egyptian says: “To be fair, as [long] as the team keeps winning, I’m more than happy.
“I’m always trying to give assists – the first one I could have gone alone but I gave it to Naby [Keita].
“I’m trying always to give my best for the team to win, which is the most important thing.
“It’s great to win 5-0 here away.
“After halftime we were talking in the dressing room that we need to write history, we just need to keep going and keep scoring goals, try to score as many as you could. A chance like that will not come often.
“So we just tried to do our best to win the game like that.”
Salah wasn’t the only Red to celebrate a big feat on Sunday, with coach Jurgen Klopp also winning his 200th match in charge of the team to rub further salt into the wounds of their rivals.
