Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool stars not to get caught up in the euphoria of their march to the Premier League title.
Anfield chanted: “We’re going to win the league” as the Reds moved 16 points clear at the top of the standings with a game to spare after Sunday’s 2-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester United.
Unbeaten with 21 wins from 22 games this season, Klopp’s team look well on course to end a 30-year wait for the Merseyside giants’ 19th league title.
But the German has seen his team throw away a 10-point lead over defending champions Manchester City last season and reminds his team that things can turn sour really quickly in the remaining 16 matches.
In fact, Liverpool are the only side to fail to seal the deal after leading the table over the festive period over the past 11 years – wasting that lead an incredible three times.
Of the feel-good factor, Klopp says: “They can sing that, but they sang that a couple of times in the past [in previous seasons], I think. It’s no problem.

“Everybody should celebrate a situation, apart from us [the team], but we have no problem with that. We have exactly the same situation plus three points.
“But nothing else changes. I will tell you in the moment when it feels different, but it feels exactly the same.
“I have no idea if we are to be caught or not, I don’t care. First and foremost it’s the Premier League. So in the Premier League we play Thursday at Wolves.”
