Jose Mourinho says Paul Pogba will never captain Manchester United again, plunging the £100m midfielder’s future at Old Trafford into doubt again.
Jose confirmed on Tuesday that he had stripped the France World Cup winner of the vice-captaincy.
The move comes only a few days after Pogba told reporters that United must “attack, attack, attack”, slamming the Portuguese’s tactics after last week’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.
And after dropping Pogba for Tuesday’s shock League Cup defeat to Derby, the Special One says: “The only truth is that I made the decision that Paul will not be a second [vice] captain anymore but no fallout, no problems at all.
“The same person that decides Paul is not second captain anymore is exactly the same person that decides Paul was second captain - myself.
“I am the manager, I can make these decisions. No fallout, no problems at all just one decision that I don’t have to explain.”
Pogba has been United’s stand-in captain for three games when regular skipper Antonio Valencia has been unavailable.
The 25-year-old was linked all off-season long with Spanish giants Barcelona and his former club Juventus.
United reportedly are backing Mourinho in the ongoing feud and have slapped a £200m price tag on Pogba.
