Jody February could face Neymar at Rio Olympics

Jody February will have all the time in the world to claim South Africa’s No.1 jersey for their Olympic football tournament opener.

The young Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper is in competition with Bafana Bafana stalwart Itumeleng Khune for the gloves for the Rio games.

But Khune will only arrive in Brazil’s capital Brasilia the day before Owen da Gama’s U23s take on the hosts next Thursday (1pm).

It means Jody will have the run of the house in training for the rest of the week, while Khune is in action with Kaizer Chiefs against Orlando Pirates in the Carling Champions Cup this Saturday (3pm).

The Ikamva product will have the time to improve his communication with his defence and work on the setpieces SA have been having problems with. But with Brazil in opener, dead-ball dangers are more likely to come from superstar skipper Neymar.

And the Barcelona ace has warned that wants to have a jol  –  on and off the pitch.

After causing a stir with pics of him partying with Justin Bieber, he says: “I am well aware what my duties are the next day. I am going to keep going out and I don’t see anything wrong with that.

“Imagine you’re 24 years old, earning what I earn and having all that I have. Wouldn’t you be the same as me?”

Recalling Brazil’s loss to Mexico in the gold-medal match, he adds: “I don’t like to lose, losing never crosses my mind, I want to bring that gold medal for Brazil that has been so difficult.”
