Cape Town City owner John Comitis insists Jan Olde Riekerink is the right guy to be in charge of his team.
Riekerink’s record since taking over from Benni McCarthy last November hasn’t improved the club’s results dramatically and the Citizens are still only four points above the PSL relegation zone.
And recently Comitis had to deny links that he was trying to lure former City coach Eric Tinkler, who is currently impressing with Maritzburg United, back to the 021.
Comitis, though, tel op vir sy Dutch coach after admitting that the club was sukkeling to get over Benni’s ugly exit.
He tells the Daily Voice: “Look, as big as Benni’s entrance was, his exit was also going to be that ugly.
“It has taken time for the club to settle after Benni left - no doubt he was a popular figure.
“But I believe we have turned the corner.
“He [Riekerink] has brought the enthusiasm back and the training processes are good.
“I believe with the football we are playing, we will succeed.”

Asked whether the current coronavirus crisis has made him paap over paying the Dutchman’s salary, Comitis says if you have the right coach, then money is not an option.
He explains: “The coach’s salary is its own budget. No matter what, you have to make sure you can keep your head coach.
“When you have the right man, it doesn’t matter what the quality of your squad is.
“With the right man in charge, we can compete with kids and less experience.”
