The impact of the coronavirus globally will change the world forever, according to Cricket South Africa CEO Jacques Faul.
With everyone taking financial hits during this time, Faul says they won’t cut player wages this season because they have budgeted for it.
But there will be a long-term impact on the finances of the game.
Faul says: “To see how Covid-19 has impacted on us and how it will impact our finances.
“The world will never be the same again after this.
He adds: “Health is the most important thing at this point in time.
“The well-being of your loved ones.
“In this context you really feel for the poor.
“In our world, sport is the most important thing and it does feed a lot of people, but to be honest, the world has greater challenges at the moment.”
COVERED FOR NOW: The Proteas got paid
Of the players’ finances he says: “For now we’ve budgeted for everything, so I don’t foresee the situation impacting on the current contracts. Both the Proteas and franchise players are all budgeted for.
“So, at this stage we have enough capacity to see us through the next season.
“Post the season we’ll have to look at the longer-term impacts of Covid-19.”
