Whether he makes it onto the pitch tonight or not, Edinson Cavani will do alles to help Manchester United defeat his ex-club Paris St Germain.
The former PSG striker arrived at Old Trafford on deadline day after being let go by the French giants when his contract expired in July – missing out on their Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich in August.
And despite being the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with 138 goals in 200 appearances, the Uruguayan was often shunted around to accommodate bigger names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
While the 33-year-old is a doubt to feature in Paris tonight after only joining his first training session with the Red Devils yesterday following a mandatory quarantine period, he will give his inside knowledge to his new teammates.
If United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer listens to El Matador, he could have the upperhand on counterpart Thomas Tuchel.
Meanwhile, United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is backing forward Marcus Rashford to shine in Cavani’s No.9 role should the new arrival miss out on selection for the clash at the Parc de Princes.
Rashford set up two goals and scored one of his own in United’s come-from-behind 4-1 Premier League win at Newcastle on Saturday.
And Fernandes, who made the score 2-1 thanks to Rashford’s play, says: “It was a great goal, Rashford did what we trained.
“He had a really good game, out of position.
“We had no Anthony [Martial, suspended] and Edinson [Cavani] wasn’t ready… Rashy did well in a position I think he can do really well in. He deserved the goal at the end.”
