Australia crushed India by eight wickets inside three days of the first Test at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, skittling the tourists for their lowest innings score in Test cricket and taking a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
Josh Hazlewood (5/8) and Pat Cummins (4/21) turned a tight day-night Test on its head in a devastating spell of pace bowling to open the day, ripping through the much-vaunted Indian batting line-up in less than two hours to dismiss the tourists for 36.
India scored 244 in their first innings, with Australia replying with 191 before ending on 93/2 to win by eight wickets.
Of their lowest score ever – the fifth lowest in Test history and the lowest since 1955, India captain Virat Kohli says: “It’s very hard to put [my] feelings into words. We had a lead of 60 when we arrived today and just collapsed completely.”
